Counting Atoms

In this video we'll show you how to work with metals and the oven. For this lab, the first 30 seconds of the video will benefit you most:

1. To start this activity, click this link for Counting Atoms (1). The lab will load in a new tab. Click back to this tab to read further instructions and complete the questions below.
2. Expand the the Samples menu in the Stockroom Tray. Expand the Metals menu and select the sample of gold (Au). The gold sample will appear in the petri dish on the stockroom counter.
3. Drag the Petri dish to the spotlight near the balance on the table. Click on the Balance to zoom in. Drag a piece of weighing paper to the balance pan, Tare the balance, and then drag the gold sample to the balance pan and record the mass.

4. Calculate the moles of Au contained in the sample.
